THE teen killed in a tragic car accident near Moruya earlier this month has been described as “a strong, resourceful and beautiful young man”, who helped many of his family and friends through the good times and the bad.
In a tribute delivered at Christopher Brice’s funeral, Lindsay Youman said his nephew was, and always would be, a dearly loved member of the local community.
“In his short but remarkable life he had realized many achievements,” Mr Youman said.
“A respected student at Moruya High School, he gained his School Certificate in 2006, with many achievements in the fields of sport and school competitions ranging from mathematics, science and geography.
“He was a long serving member of the Bodalla Scouts Group, a dependable and trusted team mate of the Moruya Tuross Rugby League Football Club, Broulee Dolphins Rugby Union Club and Moruya Sharks Rugby League Football Club and a former member of the Royal Australian Navy, where he held the rank of Recruit Marine Technical.”
Mr Youman said Chris, 17, was a proud young man, who represented his forebears at the 90th Anniversary Anzac march in Canberra.
“A formidable opponent and steadfast ally in the Moruya Marauders War Gaming Club, Chris was a true mate and sidekick at his parent’s business, Trunketabella Gardens and Nursery,” he said.
“And until recently a reliable and honest work colleague undertaking a trial trainee apprentice mechanic at Moruya Nissan.
“Like his father Nicholas, mother Danielle and brother Nicholas, Chris loved the South Coast and all the friends and people that make this wonderful community. This is the same love that has seen the community rally behind a 08/08/08 petition designed to provide permanent protection for pedestrians on South Head Road.
“Unfortunately, Chris’ love for his hometown and his determination and enthusiasm for a bright and bold future was tragically cut short.”
However Mr Youman said Chris would not have wanted people to be upset and angry over what happened but rather take comfort from friends and family and remember the good things that he represented.
“Chris’ legacy will live on in every one of us that he touched in his short but remarkable life,” he said.
“And his smile will live eternally in our thoughts and dreams.”
The Brice family would like to thank emergency services, police and members of the public who helped on the night of Chris’ accident. And special thanks to the support and generosity of the students and staff of Moruya High School, Reverend John Wells, the Presbyterian Ladies, members of the Moruya RSL Sub Branch, friends, family and the local community.
